This is a large composite park straddling Shibasaki and Nishiki districts. A gymnasium, baseball ground, athletics field and other sports facilities surround Tachikawa Park centering on the 1.3 kilometer length Negawa Green Tract. This park, extending across the road to the north of Suwa Shrine, was originally a part of the forest surrounded the Shinto shrine. It was maintained after WWII then transformed into a modern citizens park. It is said that during its 1,200 years' history as a Shinto shrine forest it was quite dark even in daytime due to tall, densely-foliaged trees.
